From October 23-24/2012 in Thompson, MB, I attended this conference which had in attendance some of the top wolf biologists in the world. They included David Mech, Paul Paquet & Marco Musiani.
David spoke on the 54 years of wolf research he has conducted. This could have consumed the entire conference but he has allocated one hour. There are still many questions which he would like to study about wolves. Dr. Mech was very impressed with the positive response Thompson has towards wolves. He stated that every other place that he has visited has never had the vision that SpiritWay Thompson has about wolves. This group wants to establish a Centre of Excellence for Wolves in Thompson to bring together top researchers to study the wolf in Northern Manitoba. It would also include ecotourism  projects about the wolf.
Dr. Paquet talked about Conservation Ethics which held that every individual wolf has intrinsic value but Fish & Wildlife officials do not endorse this. Paul held that until this becomes a fundamental shift in their policy there will be little if any change.
Dr. Musiani studies the wolf/human conflicts particularly around cattle & other livestock. He has concentrated his research to include Europe & North American.
The real value of the conference was to make these contacts & to be able to have continual contact with them.
